Authors
Keyes to Robinson
Ursula K. Le Guin
My favorite works of Ursula K. Le Guin is the
Earthsea trilogy
(now containing four books).
Anne McCaffrey
Anne McCaffrey is probably best know for her Pern Novels and Stories.
On Pern, Man and Dragon work together to keep everyone safe from
Thread Fall. The first two trilogies,
The Dragon Rider Trilogy
and
The Harper Hall Trilogy take place at the same time and
their stories intersect but are told from different viewpoints.
Anne McCaffrey has also written non-Pern novels as well. I enjoyed the
Powers That Be trilogy, the Crystal Singer series,
the Rowan series
along with her other works.
Larry Niven
Larry Niven best know work is probably his
Ringworld series. Most
of his stories take place in
Known Space, including
Ringworld,
Ringworld Engineers and
Ringworld Throne.
Larry Niven has written many short stories. One of my favorites is
Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex,
published in the book
All the Myriad Ways, deals with Superman's
reproduction problems with earth women.
Some of Larry Niven's work has been used used for television.
I remember one particular episode of
Star Trek Log (the Animated Series) where
Mr. Spock played the role of the Pierson's Puppeteers in an episode called
Slaver Weapon. Two other stories of Larry Niven were also used
in Star Trek Log (the Animated Series).
One of his stories,
Inconstant Moon,
from the book All the Myriad Ways was
turned into an
Outer Limits episode.
Nick O'Donohoe
Nick O'Donohoe is a writer of both science fiction and fantasy.
I was first introduced to the works of Nick O'Donohoe through his
Crossroad Trilogy, the story of a venterinary student and her
unusal patients and friends. I also enjoyed his recent work,
The Gnomewrench in the Dwarfworks
(a historical fantasy novel that takes place during World War II) and
his older, hard to find novel,
Too, Too Solid Flesh (a mystery/science fiction
novel).
Terry Pratchett
Terry Pratchett writes humorous fantasy best know for his Discworld series.
Discworld is a flat disc that rests on the back of the four great elephants
Berilia, Tubul, Greate T'Phon and Jerakeen who stand on the
Great A'Tuin the turtle. The first book in this series that I read was
Small Gods which tells the tale of what happens
to a God when he/she/it is down to its last believer. The first book
in the series, The Color of Magic has been
resently re-released.
Another excellent book by Terry Pratchett and
Neil Gaiman is Good Omens, a humorous look
at Armageddon and the end of the world.
Katya Reimann
Katya Reimann writes fantasy. Her works include the
Chronicles of Tielmark series have been published by TOR.
There are currently three books in the series,
Wind From a Foreign Sky,
A Tremor in the Bitter Earth and
Prince of Fire and Ashes (forthcoming from TOR).
I have had the pleasure of meeting Katya Reimann on May 19, 1998 at
the Science Fiction Reading Group at the Barnes & Noble in
Nashua, New Hampshire. I have enjoyed her books and I am looking
forward to her future works.
