PHP is a scripting language used mostly for programming on the web server. PHP originally stood for Personal Home Page. Now it stands for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor, a recursive name. The language was born in 1994 by Rasmus Lerdorf for the purpose of maintaining his personal website. It has grown into a popular server side scripting languages for web servers. According to Wikipedia, at the beginning of 2013, more than 240 million websites used PHP as well as 2.1 million web servers.
PHP is used as the programming languages for CMS, content management systems, such as WordPress and Drupal.
